Quick Info:
CamGrab1 was a simple
utility I wrote some time back, It was not too complex but done
It's job quite well. When other people expressed an interest for such a utility this site was created. (CamGrab1 was free to download and use along with a
selection of other small utilities. )
Yahoo's latest Beta(now
release) of messenger changed the way webcams worked, this included a few new
features (larger image size and super webcam). They also included a few more
bugs. Most importantly it was the end for CamGrab1 :(
Work on a version of
CamGrab compatible with this new Yahoo started when it came out of Beta. You can
download v1 of the result of this above.
So why the cost now!, I
wanted to keep CamGrab free. The problem is it takes a while to investigate the
new system and work out a solution, I only have weekends and evenings to do this
(It takes a lot of my time and I have other things to do! :). Some offers of
payment were made for a new version that works and so I decided on the above
solution. I will continue to provide a basic version for free, rather than a
cost I want the features of the other versions to be a thank you for your
support. The price is basically the minimum amount worth taking after handling
charges etc, The idea being to cover some of the development costs, not make a
profit. This one-off payment entitles you to all future updates, see the [MeFAQ] for more info.
The outcome?:
My hope is there will be
enough demand for this initial release that I will be able to spend some work
time on development. Any orders taken are processed as a product by the company
I work for, so if take-up is high enough I will continue development.
