K-install Main Features :
Common Tasks
K-install is easily configured to
perform most of the tasks associated with installing and setting up a database to work
within an organisations existing system set-up.
Examples include Copying/Creating new
databases, Modifying ACL, Signing database design, Creating new documents, Modifying
server document...
User Input
built-in user input controls aid in
entering common data with active lists.
Server list to specify a server name
from those in users name & address book.
File location browser.
Server IP/DNS lookup from name &
address book.
Simple User Interface
K-install's user interface consists
of one simple window from which databases to install are selected from a list. Install
script determines which input boxes are shown to gather information (e.g. server name)
from the user.
Progress/log window auto expands to
show a running progress of install.
Icons used in the progress/log window
help to identify the current operation
Error Handling/Reporting
K-install has built in error checking
allowing most common errors to be trapped and the error source rectified before
continuing.
Progress log can be saved for
reference or in the case of an error to aid debugging.
Can be saved to standard text file or
to preserve the icons as an html file.
K-install Set-up Script :
XML
K-install uses XML to describe the
set-up process. This has a number of advantages:
Uses the built-in error parsing of
XML's DTD/Schema
Lots of 3rd party XML text editors to
assist in constructing the XML script
3rd party XML utilities to check
script for correctness and compliance with DTD
Layout and structure familiar to
users of HTML
Checksum Generator
K-install is free to download/use and
distribute with your custom database.
To enable K-install to run a custom
install script it has to firstly be valid and correct XML
When the install script is complete a
checksum number has to be added before K-install will use it.
K-install's checksum generator is a
program provided to generate and add this required number. The checksum generator is
available to download for a trial period of 120 days and will allow the generating and
adding of a checksum number up to 5 times for the process of evaluation. Before
distribution of the install script or to generate for more than 5 times, you are required
to fully register the product.
